Wandering Chopstick’s Weekend Wokking event was a delicious hit! Thanks to everyone, all around the world, who shared our love and joy for the humble potato! This was an amazing gathering of dishes that will surely make the simple potato proud! There’s so many delicious dishes here, let’s get started right away, shall we? You all made us so hungry while writing up all the dishes!
The Round Up:
Darlene at Blazing Hot Wok – Potato Salad with Smoked Trout and Dill : Darlene give a great ode to the “Humbling Potato” but makes a potato salad dish that has “rock star” written all over it! This is the perfect potato salad recipe for all your upcoming July 4th BBQ’s! The combo of smoked trout and dill will be a hit!
Denise & Lenny at Chez Us – Potato and Fennel Tart – Inspired by Donna Hay’s use of fresh and seasonal ingredients, Denise and Lenny made a beautiful, light and flavorful tart made of yukon potatoes, leeks, garlic and thyme. This elegant tart would made Donna Hay proud!
Daily Musings – Potato Podimas : A delicious combination of lentils and potato are so pretty and make the perfect stuffing for tortillas or a sandwich! This is a satisfying and flavorful Indian dish that is simple and ideal for anyone wanting to start cooking Indian food. The curry leaves to the recipe are a plus too!
Peb at Food Made Simple – Potato and Luncheon Meat Combo : This simple and satisfying combo of meat and potatoes is a perfect dish for someone looking for a hearty and quick meal. Just check out the great pictures of the sizzling meat on the pan, then the chunks of potatoes, then the Japanese mayo! Mmm……
Shayne at Fruitcake or Nuts -Potato Dill Soup with Salmon : She found a great recipe for a German Peasant Soup , but just by looking at it, it’s fit for a King! The original recipe called for sausage, but her cravings for some fish led her to experiment with salmon and the results look wonderful!
Ning , all the way from the Philippines, at Heart and Hearth : Cream of Potato Soup : All the wonderful garlic that Ning added to this fabulous Potato Soup is a treat and it’s even low calorie! It’s not only warm and satisfying, but healthy too! She also informed us that United Nations declared 2008 as the year of the potato! Yeah!
Oanh at Halfway Between Ca Mau and Sai Gon – Tuber Coconut Curry : This amazing curry has a fantastic collage of spices, all of which dress up the tuber beautifully! Just looking at Oanh’s recipe full of aromatic spices is drool worthy. She then plated it all on a great bed of wild rice that is infused with cloves. This is a curry dish made in spice heaven!
Kitt at Kittalog – Home Made Potato Chips! : We say this with a big exclamation mark because we just love these potato chips! These are definitely the “can’t eat just one” batch of chips. Go ahead and see if you can limit yourself to an amazing plate of Kitt’s garlicky potato chips that are topped with fresh dill. Go ahead to try…we dare ya!
Nikkipolani - Vietnamese Banh Tom ( Fried Potato & Shrimp Fritter) : Watch these scrumptious fritters unfold right before your very eyes! Her Mother is in the kitchen making these “Oh so good!” tasties hot off the fryer! Watching it all eaten with fresh herbs and dipping sauce, it makes us wish we were there with them! Are we invited next time?
Palachinka - Chicken and Potatoes : Looking at the beautiful picture needs no words to describe this delectable dish! These are two ingredients that are always go well together and the use of curry and ginger in the recipe is just wonderful!
Precious Pea from Malaysia : Potato Sambal : This superb Indonesian inspiration of potatoes, fire, heat and aroma is just mouth watering! Watching it all come alive through the vivid pictures shows how lively, powerful and delicious this potato sambal really is! Great!
Lisa at Show Me Vegan – Roasted Garlic Mashed Potato Vegan Quesadillas : This is a double treat! Roasted garlic mashed potatoes are always such a delicious treat, and better yet, Lisa used Yukon Gold potatoes! Yum! To top it all off, she used the potatoes in a tasty quesadilla …and it’s vegan! Make that a triple treat!
Wandering Chopsticks – Vietnamese Beef Stir Fry With French Fries : The creator of Weekend Wokking herself made a dish that’s a feast for the eyes and stomach! Is it the french fries? the comforts of rice and beef? the smell of fried onions? the tomatoes releasing their juices? or three different colors of sweet bell pepper that make our stomach growl? By the end of the photographs, we’re famished. We need a big plate of this please!
Diane & Todd at White On Rice Couple : Klondike Rose Potatoes with Goat Cheese & Thyme : Yup, that’s us! We found some very pretty red potatoes that were creamy, buttery and delicious like gold potatoes. They were simply roasted and topped with goat cheese and thyme!
Thanks again everyone for sharing the love of the potato! Please link this Weekend Wokking Round Up to your potato post.
Now here’s the announcement for the “secret ingredient” for next month….drum roll please….it’s the Tomato!! Ta Da!! Applause!! The warm season is just perfect for these red beauties! Or maybe even green tomatoes? yellow? purple? Let’s see what everyone can make from the bounty of tomatoes!
