Sunday mornings are always special. The air is cleaner, crisper, more clear of the weekdays hectic chaos and smog congestion. Although we both work today, these morning hours are always filled with a calmness unlike that of a normal work day. We take more time to walk around the garden to see what new flower buds have awoken with today’s sunshine. The birds always sing louder too. Maybe it’s because we spend the morning moments focusing on their tunes and melodies more instead of checking our voicemail messages. We don’t feel rushed or anxious, just calm and hungry. Today’s breakfast was Poached Eggs with roasted thyme asparagus and bechemel sauce. We don’t eat like this every morning but today’s weather was extra special, so this was a nice treat.

Mmm. That looks fabulous! Great photos. And I’m jealous that your garden is blooming. We’ve got crocuses up, but more snow is coming in tonight.
Most Sundays I just have coffee in the morning, unless I go out for brunch (Cajun is always good, or waffles). But today I’ve got another pan of lasagna in the oven, assembled last night, so that’s what I’ll be eating in another hour or so.
Wow! That looks so good. We only had yogurt and sliced strawberries for breakfast today. I’m so jealous of your flowers. It’s still very doom and gloom in the North East.
That sounds so good bit late for breakfast but would work for supper as well thanks for sharing

You guys are just mean! What did I have for breakfast? Nothing as good as you just posted. I had a piece of Tiramisu Cake and a cup of Irish Breakfast Tea. What a beautiful post about Sunday morning.
Cuppa Green Tea with Jasmine, a banana with some honey on it. Bite of banana, drop of honey, bite of banana, drop of honey….you get the picture. Your breakfast looks and sounds much better!
I am so coming to your house for Sunday breakfast! We had egg and cheese burritos on whole wheat and flax tortillas, with super-spicy salsa. And we don’t eat like that every day, either!
Beautiful pictures! It looks so elegant.
Ok. This IS heaven to me. I mean it. Eggs, parm and something green is literally what I’ll be served at my corner table in heaven. This looks superb guys! Bravo! We make what we call Eggs in Purgatory. Tomato sauce, toast, fried egg, parm and basil on top. Again…heaven. Love that I know you now!
I forgot to answer the question. We had Mascarpone stuffed French toast for breakers. I made a blackberry sauce to go with. Fantastic!
What a fab blog…. How did I miss this so far? Thanks for dropping by my site and leading me here.. I am off to explore all the goodies around here……
Umm, I had… corn flakes. But don’t get me wrong, I LOVE corn flakes. Every morning the reason I wake up (other than my new puppy licking my eyes) is to fix myself a bowl of sweet cold milk and corn flakes ^_^ I would have it for brekkfust, lunch, and dinner, but then I’d die of malnutrition and won’t be able to leave such witty comments on your blog. SEE WHAT I DO FOR YOU?!!
Afraid to say that I rarely have breakfast – I prefer to catch up on sleep and then have a huge lunch. Very bad, I know.
Love your blog, btw, and your page on Banh Mi especially!
It was more like brunch, but it included a cranberry walnut oatcake, eggs, sausage, and leftover corned beef cabbage.
Your breakfast looks delectable. I adore asparagus, it’s one of those vegetables that pairs well with any meal, and your roasted thyme version makes me wish I had eaten some this morning too!
As you know, I’ve been on a crepe kick. This morning I made crepes filled with hot pepper raspberry cream. So easy – a little spicy, a little sweet and a whole lot of, “Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm!” It’s one of our weekend favorites!
i am so insanely jealous of you two. we just had the snow thaw, and planted some lettuce and other stuff an hour ago. you have such a rich bounty already!!! looking forward to all the good eats. love the second pic. i really miss california.

I woke up at 10 and got a phone call from my best friend at 10:10. I went with her to morning services at the UU after eating my chocolate Easter bunny from my mom. Then, we got lattes and walked around a local park for a few hours. Then, we plopped my landlady’s canoe into the water and canoed around until my friend came to take us out to lunch in celebration of my new job. (This was at 4 p.m., so we ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at 4.) We had dim sum, sushi, and soup plus the other stuff at the local Chinese mega buffet. Your food was good, but I love my memories, especially since I was sick over my entire spring break.
And, my mom got the tea and loves it!
I fail at poached eggs! This morning I had Chao.
We had the designer oatmeal. Normally Rajesh would whip up his awesome scrambled eggs with green chillies, onions and garlic, but today R wanted to taste my kind of oatmeal
Can I come to your house for breakfast? So lovely. I had a house full of midgets and circus animals this morning (well, actually 2 kids a dog and a cat) so I think I managed to swipe a few bites of bacon and scrambled eggs from the kids.
Gorgeous shots as always! My Sunday breakfast was nothing compared to yours; a plate of stir-fried Hokkien noodles and a glass of chilled grass jelly drink.
weekend breakfast = always a sinful spread
my favorites:
- hk style breakfast: satay beef instant noodles, fried eggs, spam, toasts dipped into coffee with milk and sugar
- home made breakfast: french toasts drenched in condensed milk, chocolate sauce, creamy scrambled eggs, sausages
etc etc etc
i post them in my blog too *grin*
Ha! I didn’t eat that well. Whopper Jr.
Well, I just finished having a crumpet with a bit of butter and marmite but I think when Bu gets up, I’m going to have to make some boiled eggs with asparagus!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow…beautiful pics
Your breakfast looks delicious! We had biscuit, egg and sausage sandwich at McDonalds.
That is a great looking Sunday breakfast! Poached eggs are always a delight. My breakfasts have either been sweet, baked indulgences (crepes, muffins, etc) or (more often) boring granola bars. Save me a plate, I’ll be right there…
I was up early I was on duty for work… my captain left for New Orleans I normally just boil him eggs and a cup of tea. But Sunday… I made scrambled eggs and muffins added bacon, I made it not just for him but for the rest of the crew… made everyone smile.
I had sunny side up…
J’aime bien la sauce bechamel et j’adore l’oeuf mollet sur l’asperge. Delicieux!
p.s. Is that yellow oleander at the top? So lovely.
My word that looks so good. I had a small bowl of applesauce for brekkie, but I have GI issues, otherwise you would have heard some rapping on your door and it would have been me, with my plate and fork and a jar of fresh squozen OJ asking if you had some extra?
Hey – everytime I reply to your emails, it gets bounced back to me. wassup??
Yummy Delicious. I normally make White asperagus. The season here is in May.
Well you can come oever and cook for ma any sunday morning
Here in Belgium we have a tradition eating warm Pistoles ( it is like a roll but hard ones) spreaded with butter and crossiabt, chocolate filled onex etc… that is what we have every sunday morning, hubby drea goes to the near by baker for buing them.
Whenever I see a photo of eggs with the bright silky yolk, I just swoon. Fabulous looking breakfast, guys! My Sunday breakfasts are usually a lot simpler, if any at all. But this Sunday, it was toast and grits – I know, incredibly unexciting!
absolutely lovely! i had a pre-gym pear for breakfast on sunday — totally pathetic, i shouldn’t even admit such lameness. at least the pear was from the farmer’s market.
Ohh, I’m so jealous of your breakfast! Mine was, since you ask, a glass of orange juice, and then half an hour later, a load of chocolate guinness cake mixture eaten off the spatula and out of the mixing bowl. Then I felt ill.
You win XD.
Alls I had was coffee, but your Sunday breakfast is very impressive.
This Sunday AM, I ate a stack of silver dollar pancakes and a big eye tuna tartare with nori powder and wasabi oil…but that was thanks to Chef David Lentz at Hungry Cat. Our Sunday afternoon snack, however, was a home made sardine sandwich on french bread with a market-fresh radish and celery leaf vinaigrette. Yuuuuuum!
Sounds fantastic! We normally do not make breakfast and we normally never blog about it if we do, but I may have, too, after seeing your fantastic meal! We had fresh strawberries, blackberries and cantaloupe and then Homemade Belgian Waffles with real butter (homemade) and real Maple syrup – as well as lots of good coffee and grapefruit juice! Fantastic!
That egg looks delicious, tho’ I don’t like runny yolk myself. And I like your March header
That sounds like a perfect Sunday morning! You are so right to embrace the magic calm of that special time of week
Lovely breakfast!
I have a really nice egg poacher which I’ve never used but I love eggs benedict! Your post just might inspire me to make breakfast for the hubby this Sunday.
Asparagus season finally arrives in CA! I love vegetables at breakfast time — asparagus is my #2 favorite breakfast veggie, spinach my #3… my #1 is (believe it or not) okra!
For sunday breakfast this week (and monday, and today) I had steel cut oats with a big spoonful of homemade bitter-orange marmalade and a healthy dollop of maple syrup.
Well let’s see….I had a bowl of Cocoa Puffs and the mister had grits…and Caesar Beezer licked both bowls…usually I cook us a big feast Sunday mornings but this week was rather hectic – in laws were in town…which only makes YOUR Sunday breakfast that much more appealing!
Omg..that looks so good and we have asparugus(sp?) and it’s “You’re the chef night” here at the Evil chef mom household.
how romantic. someday we will have this sort of peace in the morning. great picts as always.
i had a biscuit and a glass of milk!
Oooh what a great looking breakfast I am SO jealous mine was a plain yogurt and a cup of tea.
Nice to catch up on your posts after my recent illness, and you also asked about using some of my baking recipes for your video. That would be such an honour and I wouldn’t wish to choose for you what to bake, so please take your pick of which recipe you really fancy baking and I lookforward to viewing your vid

Wow, love your breakfast. Think it would be OK for my dinner . . . I do.
Gorgeous here!
Oh, yum, yum, yum. My hand almost reaches out to the roasted asparagus… I can feel the Sunday morning atmosphere in your post. For me, I like to walk to our neighborhood cafe for brunch on Sunday mornings. They make killer — pretty much everything.
Oh yeah, SoCal rules!
great photos as usual, and a great sunday breakfast. I have never had asparagus for breakfast, by why the heck not I ask myself!!
For me, my favorite sunday breakfast is toast, wilted spinach and poached egg. There is a flouncy name for that, but I can never remember what it is.
Long live Sunday mornings. Even though I have 15month old, they are somehow still relaxing.
I had a toasted bagel with cream cheese and scotch smoked salmon after going to the gym… oh well!
It was good though!
These pictures are stunning, and your breakfast looks delicious.
I just discovered your blog and love it already! Your pictures are fabulous and I love the way you write. I will be back for more soon.
