Nectarine & Raspberry Cobbler – My Summertime Memories

August 30, 2010

Few desserts embody summertime for me more than chin-dripping, sweet nectarines combined with plump, slightly tart raspberries slowly baked together under a rustic country-style topping.  Cobblers, crumbles, pies, crisps laden with juicy summer fruit, may the gods help me from eating the whole thing in one sitting. Especially with a dollop of fresh whipped cream or ice cream served alongside.

Rarely does a new cookie recipe make it into our abode’s “must make” repertoire. With our household favorites being so loved (like the chocolate chunk, snickerdoodle w/ Viet cinnamon, and oatmeal rum raisin recipes), a new find has to be pretty damn good to pass up baking an old favorite. These orange marmalade cookies with orange zest icing are pretty damn good.

There are few herbs which give the connotation of “fresh” like mint does.  A vibrant, bright, opening of the senses.  As most home gardeners will know, there is hardly only one kind of mint. For culinary use, it is…

Ginger Peach Muffins – Good To The Grain Cookbook

July 18, 2010
Thumbnail image for Ginger Peach Muffins – Good To The Grain Cookbook

This is the time of year we start to inhale stone fruits, but ultimately there comes a time when there are too many to eat off the tree and we’re searching for additional alternatives to eat them. As Summer’s warm love beings to fill up our peaches, plums and nectarines with sweet juice to sink our faces into, nature conveniently decides to let them all ripen and drop at once. We just can’t keep up!

This year we have an added succulent hailstorm of necta-plums to add to our stone fruit bounty, but…

Chocolate Crack Cookies from David Lebovitz, Ready for Dessert

April 27, 2010
Chocolate Cookie Recipes

Warning: These chocolate cookies are crack, just like the title and photo suggests (but it isn’t really the hard stuff in the photo.  Powdered sugar and palm sugar were the prop fill ins.)

Need your chocolate cookie fix?  Here’s a little something for you adapted from the latest book of the dessert master David Lebovitz, “Ready for Dessert“.

David’s chocolate crack cookies are highly addictive chocolate bombs of ecstasy that he originally crafted in the kitchen of Chez Panisse.  He innocently claims the name comes from the “craggy fissures.” At that…

“I want a pastry!” “I want a muffin!”

A monster has been created by spoiling her too much.  The latest Strawberry Crossover may have been just a little too good and now the demands for fresh breakfast delights are increasing.  Good thing muffins are quick and easy to make.

Not that I mind the demands.  Nothing makes me happier than cooking or baking for the ones I love, especially when I am lucky enough to have someone as special as Diane who can cook like a badass too, so I know the favor will be returned. Even pre-cappuccino…

Meyer Lemon Bars

February 5, 2010
meyer lemon bar recipe

We’ve been on a bit of a Meyer Lemon kick lately. First we had the Meyer Lemon Margaritas and now we’re inundating everyone with a Meyer lemon bar recipe.

“What the hell?”  you may ask.  ”Are these bastards just out to torture the population still stuck in the snow?”

We can be a bit bratty, but the main reason behind all of the Meyer lemon recipes is that our tree is laden and we’ve let the fruit sit to the point where they are all starting to drop.  As if that weren’t…

Chocolate Cookies with Peanut Butter Chips

October 17, 2009
Chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips

If you twisted my arm and pinched my nipples to force me to name my absolute favorite cookie as a kid, I would have to say “Chocolate Cookie with Peanut Butter Chips.”

Oh such fudgy, chocolatey sweetness rifled with little peanut butter bombs. I love these cookies, and yet for some reason never make them. I don’t know why. They may be a touch more work than the chocolate chunk cookies or my new favorite, the snickerdoodle, but not excessively so. They are certainly every bit as delightful and eye-rollingly good.
